What to Eat in Portland!

Blue Star doughnuts in PortlandEveryone who had been to Portland before me told me to prepare my stomach for an onslaught of absolutely delicious food, and boy, they were NOT kidding. My biggest regret of my time in Portland was that I only had one stomach, and try as I did, I could not taste everything I wanted to.  However,  the food that I did eat (not to mention the beer and coffee!) was so spectacular, I just had to share some of my favourites!

Blue Star Donuts: We hit up the downtown location and oh my goodness, was it something to feast our eyes, and then our taste buds, on. I got a doughnut filled with jelly, but with peanut butter powder on the outside! It was basically a very fancy PB and J, and I absolutely loved it! I also got my first hit of Stumptown Coffee here, and it was so good! Although walking with it in 30 degree Fahrenheit weather meant it didn’t stay hot for long!

Pip’s Original Doughnuts: When I asked Branden Harvey for his Portland recommendations, I’m pretty sure he just responded with Pip’s Doughnuts in all caps. These mini donuts definitely didn’t disappoint!  The size meant that you can try all the flavors (they had around 6 when I went), and their coffee and chai were both spectacular.

Lardo: Now, I did eat more than doughnuts, so I have to recommend a stop at Lardo. Portland made me appreciate, even more so than usual, friends who are ok with me stealing bites off their plates, and getting to try  most of the sides means I can say with a high level of certainty that everything is delicious. I got the meatball banh mi, and it was perfect after walking around in the cold.

We also went to the Deschutes Pub in downtown, to Stammisch for amazing German food, and to a sushi train restaurant, all of which were amazing. Next time I’m going to have to try to make it to Cascade Brewing, to more cafes, and back to some of these same places, just because I loved them so much! One thing to note, I know that Voodoo Doughnut is missing from this list, and that’s because I visited when I was in Denver a few years ago. It’d definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been though!

Have you ever been to Portland? What’s your favourite place to eat or drink there?

Having lived in Portland the past 3 years, I have to say you did well and tried all the best spots! One place I would HIGHLY recommend which is one of my personal favorites is Salt & Straw ice cream. They have some unique flavors, a hip vibe, and just freakin delicious ice cream 😀

I totally wanted to go there, but since it was snowing we didn’t want to feel even colder! Next time for sure! Although, they also have an LA location, so maybe I won’t have to wait as long…

These places sound great. My BIL’s son moved to Portland and I need to share this with him so he can go and visit these places when he goes to visit.
