The Here and Now // 01.08.16

One of the reasons I blog is to have a reminder of the normal, everyday things I do each week, as well as the things I’m currently enjoying. While there will always be fantastic trips and exciting projects, the little things are what make the day-to-day exciting, and those are the things I don’t want to forget! Every Friday, I’m giving you a peak into the song I’ve been jamming to, the books I’m reading, and anything else that’s been making my heart happy that week.

Welcome to the new and re-branded Weekly Wrap Ups! These will still be (mostly) weekly, but I wanted a new name, because sometimes I might skip a week or have something I really want to talk about, and I just felt constricted calling my ‘life lately’ style posts weekly wrap ups, so now, they’re all retagged and will be called The Here and Now going forward!

Eats

roscoesI started off the first day back at work in 2016 by promptly putting myself into a food coma at lunch by heading to Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles. It was definitely not my first time at Roscoe’s, but it was my first time at the Long Beach location and it was just as delicious as the chicken I’ve come to know and love at their LA locations. Smother your waffle in butter and syrup, embrace the calories, and go to town. Then commit to a kale salad for dinner, for your arteries’ sake. Continue reading

Postcard from Multnomah Falls

After a pretty low-key New Years Eve, I started off 2016 with breakfast and a cup of coffee, and then headed over to Multnomah Falls! It was something I really wanted to visit while in Portland, after having seen so many gorgeous instagrams. I’ll be honest, when I googled pictures before I left, most of them were from summer and fall, so I was feeling a little dejected. But then, I googled ‘Multnomah Falls winter’ and my heart soared. I don’t even like the movie Frozen, but oh my god the pictures made it look like Elsa’s castle! I was so beyond excited to see it myself, and it didn’t disappoint!Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Continue reading

Blog Goals- Quarter 1 (January-March)

One of my favourite types of posts to read are about blogging, and as we round out 2015 and begin 2016, I thought I’d get my blog goals written down for the first quarter. I know many bloggers do these monthly, but I think quarterly is much more realistic for me and my blogging habits. We all know that I love a good bit of planning, so writing down my goals into manageable (and attainable!) actions seems like just the thing for me! So as we go into the new year, I’m focusing on growth!

2015 Year in Review!

I know, I know, another year in review post from another blogger, sick of these yet? Sorry in advance if you said yes, because year in review posts are still one of my favourites to read, so I wanted to write my own. Looking forward to making it a tradition, since the end of the year always makes me nostalgic. I start the year often times knowing so little of what is to come, and looking back always puts a smile on my face. So, onward.

January

For the second year in a row, I rang in the new year in England! I spent most of my time with my good friend Kaitlyn and her family in the country, but also went to London (of course!) and to Cheltenham to visit friends. The rest of January involved coming home to Orange County (on one of my favourite flights ever!) and settling into a new year at work. Continue reading

Greeting from Arizona! I’m here for a few days to watch my sister graduate from Northern Arizona University. I’m so proud of her, she’ll be getting her degree in hotel and restaurant management in just three and a half years! It was my favourite kind of week- a few days of work, home times in the evening, and a road trip to end the week!

My Top Ten Instagrams of 2015!

I can’t believe that there are only a few weeks until 2016! I’ll be ringing in the New Year in Portland, Oregon, and to say I’m excited is an understatement! I know you’ve probably seen this type of post floating around the internet, but I love reading them so much, so I hope you all do as well! If you’re not following my Instagram yet, hopefully this post will convince you that you should! Yay, shameless self promo! Now, onto the top ten ‘grams of the year.

10. Somewhere over the continental United States

Starting strong, this is still one of my favourite photos I took this entire year. I remember being pretty emotional on this flight, although I don’t remember why now. I always choose the window seat so that I can watch the world go by. Continue reading

It’s that time of year where I have something to do every night after work and too many events to count, and the extrovert in me is so so so happy. Today we had our office holiday breakfast (that’s me and some of my coworkers with the CSU Chancellor Dr. White below!) and then we had our division breakfast as well! I do so love this time of year!

This week, the holiday spirit has taken me over in a big way and I’m pretty pleased about it. We decorated at work, I’ve made a solid dent in my Christmas shopping, and holiday music has been playing. I played soccer again after 3 weeks off because of work and personal travel, and I got to meet one of my best friends’ newest additions (spoiler alert, she’s adorable). Solid week indeed! Giving Tuesday: A Time to Be Grateful and Give Back

Today is Giving Tuesday, which is a day to support your favourite charities! After the excessive-ness of Black Friday, its a nice (and important!) reminder to give back this holiday season. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite charities, all of which I’ll be donating to today. I encourage all of you to give what you can, even if its only $5-10 dollars; it all adds up to help those in need! Even if you can’t give money, give your time. All of these organizations have ways to help them out that are not monetary.

I’m writing this after having spent most of the day Black Friday shopping. My favourite purchase was the Bourbon County Brand Stout from Goose Island. Yes, I will line up for beer. This week, of course, also included Thanksgiving (leftovers yes please!) and a very busy half week at work.
