You guys, I’m going to let you in on a downtown Los Angeles secret. LA City Hall has a totally free observation deck, and its got the best views of downtown I’ve ever seen. I grew up going to Griffith Observatory, which I do love, but the views from City Hall were spectacular! If you’re scared of heights, prepare yourself, because there’s nothing beyond a railing to keep you from a 27 floor drop. But hey, if I can do it so can you. Just make sure you don’t drop your phone!
About a week ago I got a text from my friend Ellie asking me if I wanted to trek out to Death Valley to the super bloom that everyone had been talking about. Of course, being the lover of road trips, picnics, and national parks that I am, I was immediately up for it. I knew that having realistic expectations was important, and I also knew we were probably about a week too late, but I was still so excited to see the flowers that were there, and for the road trip to and from. Expectations perfectly set y’all, because it was a great weekend.
Books are easily one of my favourite things in the world, and so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I think that bookstores are actual heaven on earth. I mean yes, I love Amazon as much as the next girl, but there’s nothing like going to an independent bookstore, especially a used bookstore and perusing the options. All the stories have stories, ya know? What more could you want?
It’s no secret that San Luis Obispo is one of my favourite places to spend a long weekend. Beyond the fact that some of my best friends live there, there is just so much to do, no matter the season! I’ve listed out some of my favourite activities below, but this is by no means an exhaustive list. Oh, and when you go, tag me on those inevitable Instagram posts (I’m @hellomegano) so that I can be super jealous.
Everyone who had been to Portland before me told me to prepare my stomach for an onslaught of absolutely delicious food, and boy, they were NOT kidding. My biggest regret of my time in Portland was that I only had one stomach, and try as I did, I could not taste everything I wanted to. However, the food that I did eat (not to mention the beer and coffee!) was so spectacular, I just had to share some of my favourites!
After a pretty low-key New Years Eve, I started off 2016 with breakfast and a cup of coffee, and then headed over to Multnomah Falls! It was something I really wanted to visit while in Portland, after having seen so many gorgeous instagrams. I’ll be honest, when I googled pictures before I left, most of them were from summer and fall, so I was feeling a little dejected. But then, I googled ‘Multnomah Falls winter’ and my heart soared. I don’t even like the movie Frozen, but oh my god the pictures made it look like Elsa’s castle! I was so beyond excited to see it myself, and it didn’t disappoint! Continue reading
Last week while traveling for work I had a spare afternoon in Monterey Bay, and having never been, I was excited to explore the area! I stayed right by the Aquarium and Cannery Road, which was perfect for a short visit, but would have definitely gotten too touristy, in my opinion, for any stay over a day.
First, I hit up the aquarium after scoring a free ticket. I really enjoyed it, but the cost of admission is exorbitant, and I’m not sure I’d pay to get in (I believe its $40 a person!). Since I did have a ticket though, I wandered around for a few hours, spending a very large amount of my time there watching the otters and the jellyfish.
I recently went to Disneyland with a friend of mine who is Disney obsessed, and had the best trip there I’ve ever had. Now, growing up so close to the park I’ve been a fair few times, but this time I really made the most of it, and I wanted to share some of my tips with you! These are all mostly geared towards a one day visit to both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, but could totally be used if you had more time (lucky you if so!).
Venice Beach is one of my favourite places to take out of town visitors. The boardwalk is fun and lively and chaotic, but the real gems hide a few streets away from the beach- the street art is spectacular, there are canals to explore, and Abbot Kinney has some of the cutest stores and restaurants that I can spend hours wandering around.
Sometimes you just want to have a nice glass of crisp white wine on a warm summer day, and so over the weekend, a friend and I drove up to Malibu Family Wines to do just that. After stopping to pick up some picnic supplies at the market (hello chips and guac!), we arrived just in time to hear the music start, and after we got our wine and sat in the shade, we were more than content.
