Ancient civilizations aren’t usually my thing (I’m much more of a modern history kinda girl), but when given the opportunity to visit Chichen Itza while in Mexico, I couldn’t pass it up. Plus my mum is a 7th grade teacher, and so she covers Mayan civilizations in her social studies class each year, and from hearing her talk about it, I knew it would be worth the visit. How right we were!
I recently went to Disneyland with a friend of mine who is Disney obsessed, and had the best trip there I’ve ever had. Now, growing up so close to the park I’ve been a fair few times, but this time I really made the most of it, and I wanted to share some of my tips with you! These are all mostly geared towards a one day visit to both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, but could totally be used if you had more time (lucky you if so!).
Venice Beach is one of my favourite places to take out of town visitors. The boardwalk is fun and lively and chaotic, but the real gems hide a few streets away from the beach- the street art is spectacular, there are canals to explore, and Abbot Kinney has some of the cutest stores and restaurants that I can spend hours wandering around.
Sometimes you just want to have a nice glass of crisp white wine on a warm summer day, and so over the weekend, a friend and I drove up to Malibu Family Wines to do just that. After stopping to pick up some picnic supplies at the market (hello chips and guac!), we arrived just in time to hear the music start, and after we got our wine and sat in the shade, we were more than content.
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending UCLA graduation, to watch my cousin graduate with his B.S in Biochemistry. Since we got there early though, I spent some time wandering around, and I couldn’t get over how gorgeous the campus was!
This past weekend I went up to San Francisco for work, but since I had a free evening and some time to kill before my flight, I got to do some exploring too! SF is one of my favourite cities in California, and I love visiting whenever I can!
This time I got have dinner in the Mission and have a (short!) wander in Golden Gate Park. Next time, I’m determined to get to Sutro Baths!
Driving down Pacific Coast Highway and seeing how different each town and coastline is one of my favourite past-times. Laguna Beach has some of the most interesting coastlines in the LA/Orange County area, in my opinion. There are coves and cliffs and tide pools and rocks to climb on and it’s a place that children and adults alike love.
I visited a few weeks back, and although it was a slightly overcast day (my personal favourite since it’s less busy), it was so gorgeous. Next time, I’m going to have to go at low tide to check out the tide pools!
As I mentioned in previous posts, I spent the weekend in San Luis Obispo, which is located half-way between LA and San Francisco, in an area known as the Central Coast. This area of California is absolutely stunning; you have gorgeous beaches, lush green hills, fantastic weather, and amazing people. Truly, what more can you ask for?
This area is also known for its vineyards, and many of them host tastings, and when some friends suggested stopping by Chamisal Vineyards to spend an afternoon outside sipping wine on the patio, I was instantly sold! The tasting room is in a beautiful, red, barn-like building, with gorgeous views of the vineyard on both of their patios. It truly was a great way to spend an afternoon!
I’m always up for trying a new brunch spot, and so when a coworker wanted to try Messhall Kitchen in Los Feliz, I was all about it. Messhall has fantastic ambiance, a great staff, and so many delicious choices! I recommend going with a few friends who won’t mind you stealing bites off of their plates, because you’ll want to try everything!
London has been one of my very favourite cities since I was a very little girl. I remember the first time I saw the lights in Piccadilly Circus, and the first time I saw a West End show, but when I lived in London as a student, I started to realize just how expensive things could be! More importantly though, I realized how insanely cheap other things could be, and that’s why I’m sharing some of my favourite free things to do in England’s capital!
