I know, I know, another year in review post from another blogger, sick of these yet? Sorry in advance if you said yes, because year in review posts are still one of my favourites to read, so I wanted to write my own. Looking forward to making it a tradition, since the end of the year always makes me nostalgic. I start the year often times knowing so little of what is to come, and looking back always puts a smile on my face. So, onward.
For the second year in a row, I rang in the new year in England! I spent most of my time with my good friend Kaitlyn and her family in the country, but also went to London (of course!) and to Cheltenham to visit friends. The rest of January involved coming home to Orange County (on one of my favourite flights ever!) and settling into a new year at work.
February was a month spent (mostly) at home, as I started a new position at work on the 1st of the month, during one of the busiest times of the year. Friends were getting new puppies, I hosted my Galentines Day brunch, and I officially began blogging! My sister also turned 21, and even though we didn’t get to celebrate together since she was living in Arizona, we made sure to have a drink in her honor.
March was such a busy month! I visited CSU Chico for work, spent lots of time with friends and family, celebrated Persian New Year, went to two surprise parties, and ended the month by flying to Chicago! Easily one of my favourite cities, I ate at Bang Bang Pie (of course) and went to the Lincoln Park Zoo for the first and last time.
April was another busy month at work, but we did get to go up to San Francisco for our first pre-departure orientation! I also qualified for Global Entry this month, and starting taking advantage of TSA pre-check immediately. April was also the month that I decided to go up to San Luis Obispo for the weekend to surprise my friend Megan and see Kaitlyn, and we went wine tasting and just generally had a fantastic time being together.
May was a very good month! I saw Jeremy Loops twice, got my hair dyed for the first time, and watched Arsenal win the FA cup again! I also went up to SLO again, this time for Beerfest. It was so much fun, even though it was a little weirdly overcast and they ran out of beer before the event was over. Can’t say no to drinking for charity though, can you?
June saw the kick-off of summer vibes, and was filled with graduation/promotion ceremonies, watching the Women’s World Cup, and outdoor happy hours. I went on a few dates, celebrated Father’s Day, and spent a lot of time with family and friends. This is also the month that I really got into using my planner, which made a huge difference in how I was able to stay organized, especially juggling, a blog, a full time job, and a social life! Oh, and gay marriage was legalized across all fifty states!
July began with bike rides on the 4th of July, and fireworks for all. I spent a Saturday with my friend Ellie in Malibu wine tasting, I drank margaritas, I attempted to camp but ended up getting rained out, and there were lots of barbeques. This was also the month that my car died, and when I went to see Phantom of the Opera with my family.
August was a month of visitors! My best friend Jenna visited me for the first time, and we went to Disneyland and ate sushi burritos and adventured in Venice, Santa Monica, and Griffith Park. I also got my new car at the end of the month, and promptly took advantage of my new bluetooth speakers!
I started September by visiting the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico with Elsa for my birthday! We went to Chichen Itza, sweated our way through Tulum, and I ate as much mole as I could. September also kicked off a lot of work travel, including visiting Monterey Bay. Two of my good friends also had a pretty kick-ass wedding, right in the Dana Point Harbor. So stunning!
October brought a long weekend in San Luis Obispo (a mix of work and pleasure, my favourite kind of work trip!) that was exactly what the doctor ordered- hiking, spending time with friends, and enjoying the arrival of fall weather. It was also Halloween, and who doesn’t love treats and costumes!? I also took Ellie to see Jeremy Loops for her birthday, which is the 4th time I ended up seeing him this year! October was also the first time I submitted a post to The Financial Diet, all about how to fly for free using points and miles!
November was supposed to be a relatively relaxed month, but became one where I ended up being gone a lot! I went to Chicago again, after finding a ridiculously low fare, and went to the Field Museum for the first time and of course ate pie. I also ate at the Girl and the Goat after having wanted to go for years, and it.was.so.good. I also went to a bunch of new (to me) CSU campuses- Sacramento, San Jose, East Bay, and Stanislaus. Of course, the month ended with thanksgiving and baking two Derby pies, one for home and one to share at work!
December, the last month of the year, has been very busy, as the holiday season often is. We had our holiday breakfast at work, I went to a few happy hours, a few lunches, and then I went to Flagstaff, Arizona to see my sister graduate! I finished work today, will be celebrating Christmas Eve Eve tonight (the annual tradition of drinking in downtown Huntington Beach, now in its 6th year!) and will be spending Christmas with my family here. Then I’m off inland to Palm Springs for a few days for some much needed R&R, and flying to Portland on the last day of the year for New Years Eve!
I can’t believe the year has come to a close! Looking back has made me realize how lucky I am, and how 2015 was a pretty great year in the end!
